Main Activities

A1

Identify and characterize waste electrical and electronic (e-waste) equipment containing Rare Earth Elements (REE) with potential for recovery.

A2

Investigate and optimize critical factors related to the growth of macroalgae in solutions rich in REE, as well as the uptake and fixation of these elements in macroalgae. Study the toxicity of REE in macroalgae.

A3

Optimize the processes of uptake and fixation of REE of contaminated aqueous residues, through macroalgae, in order to achieve high removal rates.

A4

Study, select and eliminate potentially toxic elements for the macroalgae present in the solution

A5

Transform and process macroalgae biomass for final presentation. Optimize the processing of macroalgae biomass, in order to be valued as raw material for the industrial sector.

A6

Perform the technological transposition, scale-up and improvement of the laboratory process of recovery of rare earth elements for scale that allows their industrial or commercial exploitation.

A7

Assessing the life cycle: environmental, economic and energy analysis.

A8

Promote and disseminate the results of the project.

A9

Technical and scientific management.
